3 Reasons for a Health Check

Covid-19 has had a significant impact on the hospitality industry in Australia and the rest of the world, and its impact is likely to continue to be felt for at least six months.

Even with social distancing in place, many venues are still able to operate in a reduced capacity, by offering takeaway and home deliveries of food and drinks. This has given those venues a way to keep engaged with members and customers and tap into their local community who are looking to support each other during this time.

Here are 3 reasons why now is a great time to do a system Health Check.

  1. Time to optimise

Measures introduced by federal and state government in Australia, including the JobKeeper scheme, have given venues vital support and the ability to keep or re-engage staff. Many venues are now starting to look at using the breathing room during this time to review and optimise current business operations and staff training processes.

2. Get ready to re-open

By conducting a health check during this time, once the doors re-open your venue will be ready to hit the ground running. You can use this time to dive into your software and analytic tools and review if you are using them to their full capacity and if they are optimised for your business.

A health check will help you gain a better understanding of all the features and functions of your systems, where efficiencies can be created in the way you use them and ultimately how you can use your systems to make your job easier.

Another area you can review during this time is staff training. It’s a great time to determine if your staff training programs up to date and in-depth enough to train staff on how to use your system from front to back-office.

You could also use this time to clean your membership database to make sure you keep engaged with your customers and members now and into the future.

3. Understand your data to optimise your venue

If you use POS, Financials, Membership or BI tools, you have a wealth of information and data on your customers and their habits. You can take the time now to understand how to get the most out of your data, including;

  • which tills are busiest
  • which days of the week and times of day are slowest
  • which staff members are most effective at upselling
  • which meals, drinks and specials are popular

Understanding these insights means that you can optimise your venue when you re-open.

In addition to getting insights, you can also improve efficiency by getting rid of unnecessary spreadsheets and switching on functions you may not know you had.
